This brief tutorial will show you how to share your Windows 7 printer and allow Ubuntu to print from it. If have both Windows and Ubuntu machines that are connected to the same network (switch), you can easily use your default Windows printer in Ubuntu by sharing it. Doing this will let your Ubuntu machine print to the same printer as your Windows machine.
You wouldn’t need to buy additional printers just for Ubuntu, both machines can use the one printer installed on your Windows machine.

To get started, you first need to share the printer. To do that, open Devices and Printer windows, then right-click on the printer you wish to share and click ‘Printer Properties’
Then select the ‘Sharing’ tab and click ‘Change Sharing Options’
Next, check the box to Share the printer and type the shared name. This name can be anything.
After that, connect to Ubuntu and click ‘Control Gear –> Printers’
Then click ‘Add’ and browse to Network Printer –> Windows Printer via SAMBA. Next, click ‘Browse’ button and navigate to the printer attached to the computer. You may be prompted to provide your Windows username and password before you and add the printer.
Next, enter your Windows Username and Password and click ‘Forward’
Select the brand of your printer and click ‘Forward’
Choose the model and continue.
Continue until the printer is properly installed.
